Windows 8.1 New Security Features

Moving forward for Windows 8.1. Today you will receive the last update for Windows XP and you won’t receive any more update for Windows XP. In the other word, if new vulnerability discover (weakness in a system which cause cybercriminal takes over it), there won’t be any update or fix for it. If there is a new problem for Windows XP, there won’t be any official help or support for it. To make it simple, even though your Windows XP will be running like before but you will have to expect hackers and other cybercriminals take over it very soon. Cybercriminals just love operating system which won’t get update and they are at risk, because they could be hacked easier and without much trouble. And remember Anti-Malware or Anti-Virus software or Firewall alone won’t completely protects you against hackers and cybercriminals and you need update for your operating system to stay update.

Moving forward, you have to make a wise decision today, either you have to consider buying a new PC which is running Windows 8.1 or any other supported version of Windows or upgrade your existing Windows XP to Windows 8.1 or supported version of Windows.

Windows Defender has been enhanced with network behavior monitoring to help stop the execution of malware. Sometimes malware is known, other times it isn't, so Defender now looks at "bad behaviors in memory, the registry, or the file system, even before signatures have been created," Ingalls says. In addition, Internet Explorer 11 scans binary extensions (ActiveX, for example) in use before potentially harmful code runs. In contrast, pre-Windows 8.1 systems may allow malicious sites to exploit vulnerabilities in binary extensions like ActiveX controls. Additionally, IE's Enhanced Protection Mode is now enabled by default in the Windows Desktop version of IE. (It was autoenabled in the Metro edition in Windows 8.0, as it still is in Windows 8.1.)

Windows 8.1 introduces Remote Data Removal, which allows organizations to remove company data (email, attachments, and orporate data that came from Work Folders) without completely wiping the personal user's data in the process. Note that this capability requires Windows Server 2012 R2 to support Work Place Join and Work Folders.

Security is always going to be a concern for both the home and corporate user, even more so when you consider many users work from home PCs and other personal devices. As an IT admin looking to ensure the greatest level of security, you should give serious consideration to adopting Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7.

Windows 7 customers will migrate to 8.1 and beyond once there is a reason for making the switch, such as deploying tablets or other touch-enabled devices, says Direction on Microsoft's Miller. Businesses still running XP have made the decision to forego the security benefits of a newer operating system because XP still is sufficient for their organization, or they lack the financial resources to upgrade. The migration will happen once XP is no longer enough, or the organization needs the new features.
